JUN AUTO TURBINE ADAPTER FOR SUBARU EJ20 5005A-F001

JUN AUTO TURBINE ADAPTER FOR SUBARU EJ20 5005A-F001

JUN AUTO TURBINE ADAPTER FOR SUBARU EJ20 5005A-F001

JUN AUTO Turbine Adapter 5005A-F001 is a specialized turbo conversion adapter developed by  JUN Auto Mechanic for Subaru EJ20 boxer engines.

Its primary role is to allow fitment of larger Mitsubishi TD05/TD06 external wastegate turbochargers onto Subaru EJ-series layouts that originally have restrictive factory mounting geometry.

Core Engineering Philosophy

Subaru EJ engines use a horizontally-opposed (“boxer”) layout, making turbo routing unusually tight and asymmetrical. Factory turbo positioning limits:

  • turbo size,
  • compressor housing clearance,
  • exhaust flow efficiency,
  • and external wastegate configurations.

The JUN adapter acts as a transition interface between:

  • the EJ exhaust manifold/turbo flange,
  • and larger TD05/TD06 turbine housings.

This enables:

  • larger compressor wheels,
  • higher airflow ceilings,
  • improved boost stability,
  • and race-oriented turbo configurations.

Technical Advantages

1. Enables Large Turbo Conversion

The adapter supports:

  • TD05,
  • TD06,
  • external wastegate turbo setups.

These turbos flow significantly more air than stock IHI units used on many Subaru WRX/STi EJ20 engines.

Result:

  • much higher horsepower ceiling,
  • especially above 400–600 hp builds.

2. Better High-RPM Breathing

Larger turbine housings reduce exhaust backpressure at high RPM.

Advantages:

  • improved top-end power,
  • lower exhaust gas temperature,
  • reduced turbine choking,
  • more stable boost at redline.

This matches JUN’s traditional philosophy:

sacrifice some low-end lag for violent upper-RPM acceleration.

Very popular in:

  • time attack,
  • circuit racing,
  • drag Subaru builds.

3. External Wastegate Compatibility

External wastegate systems control boost more accurately than many internal-gate systems.

Benefits:

  • reduced boost creep,
  • cleaner boost curve,
  • improved anti-lag compatibility,
  • higher reliability under extreme boost pressure.

4. Motorsport-Oriented Construction

JUN parts are designed around:

  • endurance,
  • thermal stability,
  • repeated heat cycling.

Typical material philosophy includes:

  • precision-machined steel,
  • thick flange sections,
  • crack resistance,
  • high-temperature durability.

That matters because EJ engines generate enormous exhaust heat near cylinders #2 and #4.

Important Installation Notes

JUN specifically notes:

  • intercooler relocation/modification may be required,
  • custom piping fabrication is necessary,
  • some large compressor housings may not clear certain GRB chassis setups.

This is NOT a simple bolt-on part for beginners.

Usually paired with:

  • custom equal-length headers,
  • upgraded fuel systems,
  • standalone ECU tuning,
  • forged internals,
  • high-flow intercoolers.

Best Subaru Platforms for This Adapter

Compatible mainly with:

  • Subaru GC8 WRX/STi,
  • GDA WRX,
  • EJ20 single-port entry setups.

Ideal for:

  • EJ207 builds,
  • forged EJ20 stroker engines,
  • track-focused Imprezas.

Insight — Why JUN Parts Are Respected

JUN became legendary because they engineer around:

  • airflow physics,
  • combustion efficiency,
  • and endurance under race abuse.

Their Subaru projects historically focused on:

  • large single turbo efficiency,
  • sustained high-RPM operation,
  • thermal survivability,
  • and stable power delivery.

Unlike many “show parts,” JUN components were built around real motorsport data from:

  • GT racing,
  • time attack,
  • and high-speed endurance builds.
