AIRTEC Motorsport Radiator — Toyota GR Yaris Gen 1 / Gen 2

Product SKU: 422679 · AIRTEC part number: ATRADYGR3

The AIRTEC Motorsport upgraded radiator is a direct-replacement cooling component developed for the Toyota GR Yaris Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Its engineering objective is straightforward: increase the radiator’s heat-rejection capacity so the engine cooling system can better manage sustained heat during demanding driving.

For a turbocharged GR Yaris, this is particularly relevant when the car regularly experiences high engine loads, repeated acceleration or extended track sessions. It is a cooling-system upgrade, not a horsepower modification by itself.

2. Why the extra cooling capacity matters

A. Thermal management under boost

A turbocharged engine produces substantial heat under sustained load. The radiator transfers heat from engine coolant into the passing air. A larger core provides more coolant volume and potentially more effective heat exchange, depending on airflow and operating conditions.

B. Repeated hard driving

On a circuit, consecutive high-load laps can increase heat accumulation. Additional radiator capacity can help the cooling system resist temperature rise, although performance depends on ambient temperature, airflow, thermostat operation and the rest of the cooling system.

C. Hot-climate operation

In Malaysia’s warm, humid conditions, the temperature difference between the coolant and incoming air may be smaller than in a cool climate. Additional cooling capacity can be useful under demanding conditions, but it cannot compensate for restricted airflow, a faulty cooling fan or an existing cooling-system problem.

3. Does it increase horsepower?

Not directly.

The radiator does not inherently increase boost pressure, engine displacement or combustion efficiency. Its primary function is thermal control.

The benefit is that a better-managed cooling system can help the engine maintain more consistent operating conditions under sustained load. If the original system is already keeping temperatures within its intended range, an upgraded radiator may deliver little measurable power gain.

4. Is installation complicated?

AIRTEC describes this as a direct replacement using the original mounting points and connections, with no cutting or trimming required. Fitting instructions are supplied.

For a reliable installation, the cooling system should be filled and bled correctly, leaks checked, and coolant temperatures verified after installation.

One important distinction: the main radiator is only one part of the GR Yaris thermal-management system. The engine coolant, engine oil, turbocharger cooling circuit and, where applicable, transmission cooling have different thermal demands. The main radiator does not replace dedicated oil or auxiliary cooling upgrades.

5. Who should consider this upgrade?

Driving or modification profile

Assessment

Standard road car, normal commuting

Lower priority if the existing system works correctly

Fast road driving in hot weather

Potentially worthwhile if cooling capacity is a concern

Modified engine with sustained high load

More relevant; assess actual coolant temperatures

Frequent circuit sessions

Worth considering alongside oil-temperature management

Existing overheating problem

Diagnose the root cause before upgrading

6. Final technical verdict

The AIRTEC Motorsport 422679 is best understood as a thermal-management upgrade rather than a power upgrade.

Its 48% increase in stated radiator capacity and deeper 40 mm core are the main engineering selling points.

Adro Toyota GR Yaris Gen 1 & 2 Prepreg Carbon Fibre Front Bonnet A18A30-2401

SKU: A18A30-2401

The ADRO bonnet is more than a cosmetic carbon panel. It targets front-end mass, engine-bay thermal management and aerodynamic integration on the Toyota GR Yaris.

According to ADRO, it fits both 2020–2023 Gen 1 and 2024–2026 Gen 2 GR Yaris.

Why the prepreg construction matters

Unlike conventional wet-lay carbon fibre, prepreg carbon uses carbon reinforcement that has been factory-impregnated with a controlled amount of resin. The component is then cured under controlled heat and pressure.

That gives several engineering advantages:

  • Lower resin content → lower unnecessary mass
  • More consistent fibre/resin ratio
  • High structural rigidity
  • Better dimensional consistency
  • Excellent surface finish
  • Suitable for demanding motorsport/aerospace-style manufacturing processes

The important point is that carbon fibre itself isn’t automatically lightweight. Manufacturing method, laminate schedule, reinforcement and hardware determine the final component’s real-world mass.

The interesting part: heat extraction

ADRO has designed the bonnet with airflow openings intended to allow hot air trapped inside the engine bay to escape.

That’s particularly relevant to the GR Yaris because its compact G16E-GTS 1.6-litre turbo engine bay has substantial thermal load.

The objective isn’t simply “more vents = better.”

The engineering objective is:

High-pressure air entering the front → radiator/intercooler/engine-bay heat transfer → controlled low-pressure escape path → reduced heat retention

This can be useful during repeated hard driving, where heat soak becomes more important than a single acceleration run. ADRO specifically positions the bonnet for both track use and spirited street driving.

Why removing weight from the bonnet matters

This is one of the more intelligent locations for lightweighting.

The bonnet sits:

high + forward of the vehicle’s centre of mass

Reducing mass there can contribute to a small reduction in the car’s rotational inertia and front-end load. The effect isn’t equivalent to removing the same mass from the chassis floor, but strategically removing upper-front mass can help the car feel more responsive.

For a GR Yaris, the philosophy becomes:

Don’t just chase horsepower — reduce mass and improve thermal behaviour around the powertrain.

ADRO aerodynamic philosophy

ADRO says its GR Yaris carbon package was developed using CFD and designed to complement the factory aerodynamic platform. For the complete body kit, ADRO claims approximately 165 lb / 734 N additional downforce with minimal drag penalty. That figure applies to the overall aero package, not the bonnet alone.

That’s an important distinction when evaluating the bonnet.

The bonnet’s primary performance functions are:

weight reduction + thermal extraction

rather than treating it as an independent downforce-producing device.

The verdict

This is the type of carbon component where material technology actually has a functional reason to exist.

A cheap carbon-look bonnet primarily changes appearance. A properly engineered prepreg bonnet can attack three engineering targets simultaneously:

Mass ↓
Thermal retention ↓
Front-end response ↑

The biggest mistake would be judging A18A30-2401 purely by its visual carbon weave. Its real value is in the laminate construction, weight reduction, airflow design and fitment quality.
