HPI REINFORCED 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION FOR NISSAN SILVIA S15 SR HPKM-FS6R92A

HPI Reinforced 6-Speed Transmission for Nissan Silvia S15 SR20DET (HPKM-FS6R92A)

HPI developed the HPKM-FS6R92A Reinforced 6-Speed Cross Transmission specifically for the Nissan Silvia S15 Spec-R (SR20DET)

It is a motorsport-oriented gearbox engineered for circuit racing and drifting, prioritizing strength, close gear spacing, and rapid acceleration over comfort.

It is rated to handle up to approximately 50 kg·m (490 Nm / 361 lb-ft) of torque and around 430 PS (424 hp)

Engineering Philosophy

Instead of simply making the factory FS6R92A stronger, HPI redesigned the gearbox around three core principles:

  • Higher gear strength by optimizing gear dimensions and tooth design.
  • Closer gear ratios to keep the SR20DET in its power band during hard acceleration.
  • Improved shift precision under racing loads.

The result is a transmission that sacrifices refinement for outright performance.

Key Technical Features

  • Reinforced internal gearset for competition use.
  • Close-ratio 6-speed gearing.
  • Designed specifically for the SR20DET-powered Silvia S15.
  • Professionally assembled under controlled conditions with dedicated tooling.
  • Built using HPI’s assembly process together with their COA lubricant to reduce wear and improve shift feel.
  • Mechanical speedometer drive provision included, allowing compatibility with earlier S13/S14 applications when appropriate components are installed.

Why Close Ratios Matter

Compared with the standard S15 gearbox:

  • 1st and 2nd gears are brought closer to 3rd, reducing RPM drop after launch.
  • 6th gear is brought closer to 5th, keeping the engine within the turbo’s boost range.

Benefits include:

  • Faster acceleration.
  • Better turbo response between shifts.
  • Reduced time waiting for boost to build.
  • More consistent lap times.
  • Improved drift transitions.

Strength

HPI rates this transmission for:

  • Maximum torque: 50 kg·m (≈490 Nm)
  • Maximum power: 430 PS (≈424 hp)

This makes it suitable for many modified SR20DET builds, including larger turbo setups, though exceeding those design limits increases the risk of gear failure.

Competition Characteristics

Because the gears prioritize strength over refinement:

  • Gear whine is significantly louder than the factory transmission.
  • Shifting feels more mechanical.
  • It is not intended as a quiet daily-driver gearbox.
  • HPI classifies it as a competition part rather than a comfort-oriented street upgrade.

Recommended Supporting Components

To maximize reliability, HPI recommends pairing the gearbox with:

  • NISMO clutch system.
  • High-quality 75W-140 competition gear oil.
  • Proper break-in (around 300 km) before hard use.
  • Professional installation and setup.

Advantages

  • Excellent for track days and drifting.
  • Stronger than the standard S15 gearbox.
  • Faster acceleration due to optimized ratios.
  • Better durability at higher power levels.
  • Maintains turbo boost between shifts.
  • High-quality Japanese motorsport engineering.

Disadvantages

  • Loud gear whine.
  • Higher purchase price than rebuilding a stock gearbox.
  • Less comfortable for daily driving.
  • Designed primarily for competition use.

For an SR20DET producing 350–430 PS, the HPI HPKM-FS6R92A is considered one of the most desirable Japanese aftermarket transmissions.

It offers a substantial improvement in durability and on-track performance while retaining synchronized shifting, making it a premium choice for serious circuit and drift builds.

DAIWA RACING LABO DRL RADIATOR FOR NISSAN GT-R R35 DRLRA020060

The DAIWA RACING LABO (DRL) Racing Aluminum Radiator DRLRA020060 is a premium motorsport-derived radiator developed specifically for the Nissan GT-R R35 and is aimed at owners demanding stable cooling during repeated high-load driving.

Technical Explanation

Racing DNA

Unlike many aftermarket radiators that simply increase core thickness, DRL developed this radiator using technology derived from SUPER GT GT300 race cars.

The philosophy is to maximize total cooling efficiency, not just coolant volume.

Core Specifications

  • Part Number: DRLRA020060
  • Vehicle: Nissan GT-R R35 (2007 onwards)
  • Core Size: 450 × 728 × 36 mm
  • Dry Weight: 6.6 kg
  • Filled Weight: 10.4 kg
  • Direct bolt-on installation with no cutting or chassis modification required.

Engineering Philosophy

Most aftermarket radiators increase cooling by making the core thicker (40–60 mm). While this increases coolant capacity, it can reduce airflow through the radiator at speed.

DRL takes the opposite approach:

  • Thin but highly efficient aluminum core
  • Optimized fin density
  • High thermal conductivity materials
  • Reduced airflow restriction
  • Better evacuation of hot air from the engine bay

This creates a radiator that works exceptionally well during continuous high-speed driving where airflow is abundant.

Performance Advantages

1. Superior Heat Rejection

  • Keeps coolant temperatures stable during repeated acceleration.
  • Minimizes heat soak after several laps.

2. Improved Airflow

  • Lower restriction means more air reaches the intercoolers, oil cooler, and engine bay.

3. Lower System Weight

  • Lightweight aluminum construction helps reduce front-end mass.

4. Bolt-on Fitment

  • Retains factory mounting points.
  • No permanent modifications required.

Ideal Applications

  • Circuit racing
  • Time Attack
  • High-speed highway driving
  • 600–1000+ hp GT-R builds
  • Track-day enthusiasts

Final Verdict

The DRLRA020060 is one of Japan’s most technically sophisticated radiators for the GT-R R35.

Rather than relying on a thicker core alone, it focuses on thermal efficiency, optimized airflow, and reduced aerodynamic resistance, making it particularly effective for endurance racing and repeated high-load operation.

If you’re building a serious R35 for track use, it belongs in the same elite category as CSF and PWR cooling systems, with a distinctly Japanese motorsport engineering philosophy.
